Bruised Knees
Bruised knees were big amongst the staff at GlobalGiving (my previous life). We had an eating habit, and to prevent that habit from overcoming us, we were runners.
Together, we ran marathon relays, full marathons (that's a piction of Dennis and I finishing the Marine Core Marathon), half marathons, and 10Ks.
As runners, we saw our fare share of injuries. One day, my colleauge Britt came to the office scraped and bruised from a nasty fall. While she was proud of these hard earned injuries, her mother was not thrilled. "You will never get married with Bruised Knees," she said. From that point on, running like a girl took on new meaning. It meant being tough, adventurous, and bold. We all wanted bruised knees.
Together with the New Girls Network, we're bringing this tradition to Maine. We'll begin by training for and running Beach To Beacon -- a 10k organized by our favorite Olympiad, Joan Benoit Samuelson. In May, we'll post a 10 week training schedule -- designed for individual and group runs. We'll use the blog to encourage one another, plan meet-ups, and share tips.
Even if you're not registered for the race or if you've never run before, join us for training. Beach To Beacon is only the first run... I hear there is a half marathon in October...
